Nepal Marks 76th National Democracy Day with Nationwide Ceremonies

Kathmandu: Nepal is celebrating the 76th National Democracy Day today with various programs across the country, commemorating the historic end of the autocratic Rana regime through the People’s Revolution of 2007 BS.

The day is regarded as a milestone in Nepal’s political history, marking the restoration of civil rights and freedoms for citizens and laying the foundation for the present federal democratic republican system.

Tributes are being paid to martyrs Dasharath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha and Shukraraj Shastri, along with other known and unknown heroes who sacrificed their lives for democracy.

The main ceremony is being held at Sainik Manch in Kathmandu under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The event is being attended by the President, Vice President and other high-ranking state officials. The Nepali Army is also presenting a special parade and exhibitions as part of the celebrations.
